‘Non-Essential’ Indian Nationals Advised to Leave Ukraine Amid Russian Invasion Fears

The Indian embassy in Ukraine on Sunday called on thousands of Indian nationals to leave the country amid fears of a Russian invasion. “In view of the continued high levels of tensions and uncertainties with respect to the situation in Ukraine, all Indian nationals whose stay is not deemed essential and all Indian students, are advised to leave Ukraine temporarily,” the embassy stated in an advisory. At a Security Council meeting last week, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations T.S. Tirumurti said that the well-being of “more than 20,000 Indian students and nationals live and study in different parts of Ukraine” is a priority. Tirumurti reiterated India’s call for “immediate de-escalation of tensions” that takes into account “the legitimate security interests of all countries.” “India has been in touch with all concerned parties.
