Malaysia to Reopen Borders for All Travelers Amid ‘Transition to Endemic Phase’

Malaysia will reopen its borders for all travelers from April 1 as the country transitions to the COVID-19 endemic phase, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Tuesday, in what he called an “exit strategy” for Malaysians to return to normal life. Ismail said that the decision was made after conducting a risk assessment and consulting with the Health Ministry. The move aims to revive Malaysia’s tourism industry, which has been severely impacted since the government closed the borders in March 2020. “Malaysia is now a destination that is open and can be visited by all,” Ismail was quoted saying by the national news agency Bernama.
