Anti-Homeless Encampment Proposal Could Be on LA’s 2022 Ballot

Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino is pushing to get his anti-homeless encampment proposal onto the ballot in 2022, and touting a recent poll indicating his measure might succeed. The city council will vote Nov. 23 to add the measure to the 2022 ballot that would ban sidewalk encampments in public areas of the city where enough shelter is available and offered to the homeless. The measure was introduced by Buscaino, who is also running for mayor, and seconded by Councilman John Lee. The ballot measure would also prioritize the production of emergency temporary shelter over permanent housing, and grant the mayor authority to cut through red tape and expedite the construction of emergency homeless housing.
