More than 1,500 police officers were deployed to Sydney’s central business district (CBD) and surrounding areas to prevent a planned anti-lockdown protest on Saturday. The New South Wales (NSW) police announced Saturday morning that public transport routes to downtown Sydney and ride shares would be blocked. Trains had to skip major train stations, including Redfern, Town Hall, Martin Place, Wynyard, Circular Quay, St James, and Museum, until 2 p.m. local time. Police officers were holding up traffic on major roads into the city to fend off any hints of a planned protest. Ten major roads—including Oxford St. in Paddington, Parramatta Rd. at Annandale, and the Pacific Highway at St Leonards—were reduced to a single lane for their operation.
