ORANGE, Calif.—As thousands of people gathered around a 90-foot Christmas tree in Old Towne, the holiday spirit came into full effect Dec. 4, accompanied by carolers and orchestral musicians.
“We are going to ask the audience to sing along with us on this one,” conductor Michael Short told the crowd as the band softly began playing “Silent Night.”
Attendees immediately joined in—with many likely noticing this year’s 28th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony was not much different from other such ceremonies over the last two decades. The city of Orange would proudly agree.

“We love how much the community enjoys just inviting in the season with music, lights, fun, and festive food,” City of Orange spokesman Paul Etkins told The Epoch Times. “We think it’s a pretty important event, especially after everything we’ve been through, including the pandemic, and it’s a chance for us all to come together … and share each other’s company to bring in the season with joy and light.”…
