OSHA Opens Investigation Into Deadly Amazon Warehouse Collapse in Illinois

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) said Monday it will investigate the partial collapse of an Amazon distribution center in tornado-ravaged, Evansville, Illinois, over the weekend. “OSHA has six months to complete its investigation, issue citations, and propose monetary penalties if violations of workplace safety and or health regulations are found. No further information will be available until OSHA has completed their investigation,” Department of Labor spokesman Scott Allen said in a statement. The Labor Department oversees OSHA. The agency placed “compliance officers” at the Amazon facility on Saturday, Allen said. Six Amazon workers were killed, one was injured, and about 45 people were rescued, said Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker in a news conference on Saturday.
