A Taliban spokesperson has praised Beijing for its role in Afghan politics during an interview with Chinese state media. The Chinese regime has played a “constructive role” in promoting peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan, and the Tablian hopes that it Beijing can contribute to the rebuilding of the country, Suhail Shaheen, the Taliban spokesman in Qatar told Chinese state-run CGTN television. Beijing can play “an important role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan,” Shaheen told CGTN in English on Thursday. “Also in peace and reconciliation, their role was very constructive.” Shaheen said that the Taliban and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had long been in contact.
