As trash collection in Orange County, Calif., continues to operate at a limited capacity amid an ongoing sanitation worker strike, employer Republic Services called in its national emergency response team to assist with the worker shortage. About 400 sanitation workers went on strike last week alleging unfair labor practices with Republic Services. The unanticipated strike caused a shortage of sanitation workers in multiple Orange County cities, including Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Brea, Placentia, Garden Grove, Yorba Linda, Fullerton , and Fountain Valley. In response, Republic Services called in its national emergency response team to ensure services proceed. Trash pickup is to be prioritized to first accommodate critical commercial and industrial areas with residential areas to follow, according to Republic Services. As the emergency response team makes its rounds, Republic Services advises residents to bring their trash bins outside on their regular service days.
