US Secretary of State Calls on China to Release Kovrig, Spavor

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has joined in the call for the release of the two Canadians who have been arbitrarily detained in China since 2018. “We join our partners in calling on Beijing to immediately release the two arbitrarily detained Canadians, Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig,” Blinken wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “Human beings are not bargaining chips,” Blinken said, echoing the words of the U.S. President Joe Biden on the issue earlier last month. https://twitter.com/SecBlinken/status/1374350372911845376 Spavor and Kovrig, commonly referred to as the “Two Michaels,” were taken into custody in December 2018.
